The British government is set to progress with using the full worth of frozen Russian holdings to bolster Ukraine's war effort, Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has announced.

In a joint statement, the officials of the UK, the French Republic, and Germany asserted that this joint measure would escalate tension on Russia's leader Vladimir Putin and persuade Russia to come to the table.

They added that the decision would be implemented in close cooperation with the United States.

United Kingdom sanctions have immobilized in excess of £25bn of Russian resources since the Russian government launched its widespread offensive against Ukraine in 2022. Yet, up to this point, funds allocated to the Ukrainian government using Russia's holdings had exclusively been taken from earnings and returns accrued on them.

Sir Keir informed President Volodymyr Zelensky that the United Kingdom, the French Republic, and Germany were united in their aim to advance efforts toward employing the full value of the immobilized Russian sovereign funds to conclude the conflict.

He noted that further restrictions soon would increase the strain on Moscow.

This announcement follows EU officials convened in Copenhagen recently to discuss employing frozen Russian funds for a 140-billion-euro credit to Ukraine.

Last month, American leader Donald Trump urged international partners to seize or otherwise use immobilized Russia's funds, based on news outlets.

The worth of immobilized Russian funds in the EU is estimated to be almost €211bn.

President Zelensky encourages Britain's Sir Keir Starmer to participate in the PURL programme

The Russian government executed extensive missile and drone strikes across the Ukrainian territory on recently, leading to electricity outages in significant regions of Kyiv, the city, and several other zones.

Several persons were lost their lives and no fewer than 20 people were injured in the assault, authorities in Ukraine reported.

In a message on X following the incident, Zelensky commented that the premeditated assault focused on civilian and energy infrastructure.

"What's needed is not empty words but decisive action - from the America, Europe, and the seven nations - in supplying anti-aircraft weapons and applying penalties," he stated.

"Each restrictive measure undermines the Russian war effort," Zelensky noted, in a separate post.

In the same period, Zelensky told media outlets he would encourage Sir Keir to join the PURL programme, under which partner nations acquire weapons from the United States to give to the Ukrainian forces.

While praising the Britain's firm backing for Ukraine, he said it should demonstrate clearly that it would participate in the initiative, as well as apply further restrictions on the Russian Federation.
