People have gathered across the country to remember the second anniversary since the Hamas-conducted attack on October 7th, 2023, as talks advanced in Egypt over a resolution to the hostilities in Gaza.

The incident led to more than 1,200 people dead and 251 others captured back to Gaza as captives. It was the most most fatal day for Jewish people since the World War II.

Israel answered by beginning a military offensive in Gaza which has taken more than 67,000 people, as reported by the region's Hamas-administered health ministry. Its statistics are regarded as trustworthy by the UN and other world agencies.

"The violent enemies have hit us hard, but they have not overcome us," Benjamin Netanyahu remarked on Tuesday.

He also vowed to "accomplish all the aims of the war: the release of all the captured, the destruction of the Hamas administration and the guarantee that Gaza will never again create a risk to Israel".

Memorial Events Across Israel

The national leadership postponed state commemorations until mid-October - after the completion of the Jewish High Holiday season - but gatherings still occurred across the country on Tuesday.

A commemorative event for the relatives of Israeli citizens who died in the Hamas attack was conducted in the coastal city. Arranged by the affected families, it was broadcast across Israeli television channels.

A period earlier, a moment of silence was held throughout the country.

Peace Meetings in Egypt

At the same time, both sides' delegations convened in the Egyptian tourist destination of the negotiation venue for a second day of third-party negotiations to discuss the conditions of the plan.

A senior representative involved in the discussions indicated that an late session of negotiations began at 7 PM local time.

The source stated the earlier meeting finished without significant progress, due to differences over the recommended Israeli retreat arrangements from Gaza and over safeguards Hamas demands to ensure Israel does not recommence fighting after the first phase of the deal.

He added that the negotiations are "tough and have still not produce any significant progress," but noted that facilitators are working hard to reduce the disparities between the conflicting groups.

Essential Points in Discussions

  • A lasting truce
  • The swap of the hostages still kept by Hamas for Palestinian prisoners from Gaza
  • The pullout of military personnel from Gaza
  • Measures for assistance provision
  • Post-war management of the territory

Civilian Feeling

In the city's public square previously, young a woman - whose sibling survived the incident on the outdoor event, where many attendees were killed and numerous more were captured by Hamas gunmen - shared: "No place appears as home any longer and until all the hostages return not a single person will have peace of mind."

"Once we see everyone home once more, we can feel relief anew. Then we can start to heal," she concluded.

Outside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's official dwelling in Jerusalem, people congregated to express their solidarity for the relatives of the captives. Israel states nearly fifty remain in detention in Gaza, twenty of whom are thought to be alive.

Protester a participant explained: "It's necessary do every compromise required for the abducted to return. But we truly desire assurances that we will be protected."

Research now regularly indicate that approximately 70% of the population desire the conflict to conclude in exchange for the freedom of the abducted.

Gaza Circumstances

At the location of the music event, mourners came together to honor the dead.

From the site, the sound of Israeli air strikes and shelling could be noticed just a brief space away in Gaza, where witnesses indicated the intense Israeli shelling persisted.

In the urban center, air and artillery strikes were reported in the dawn of Tuesday in the western neighborhood, area and zone districts and in the eastern area of Sheikh Radwan, as well the settlement to the north-west.

"As the dusk falls, the fear comes with it," relocated urban resident a mother, whose 17-year-old son was lost his life by an Israeli bombing previously, explained.

"Me and my three children are terrified of the bombings. Throughout the evening we are sleeping together, embracing, notably my youngest child who puts his face on me all night."

"Every second we monitor the reports to see what happened. And I'm worried that this truce will not be completed and that the fighting will come back to us."

Humanitarian Crisis

The medical facility in Gaza City reported it had taken in the corpses of six people by the midday, including a trio who lost their lives in an Israeli bombing in the southern al-Sabra neighbourhood.
