The Latest Casual Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Regarding Bots, XP Rewards, and Queue Times
Over the weekend, the game developers introduced a fresh game mode called Relaxed Breakthrough. To put it simply, this mode mirrors the standard Breakthrough setup but features several notable changes:
- Every squad has just eight human participants, with the rest filled by 32 bots.
- Actions performed by real players grant full XP, while AI activities provide reduced XP.
- Just a pair of locations can be played: Cairo Siege and Empire State map.
- Features like Player tags, accolades, and stat tracking have been turned off.
So essentially, this mode delivers on its name: it offers a casual version of Breakthrough. On the surface, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives additional choices for gamers looking for different ways to enjoy the title. However, if video games have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. In other words, many Battlefield 6 fans are upset.
Community Reactions: Anger to Support
"People want human opponents. Don't repeat the errors of your rivals," reads one reply to the official announcement. "Absolutely shocking idea," comments another. At the same time, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user remarks, "I have no idea where we are headed with this game," and another lists all the issues they believe to be broken in Battlefield 6: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, fix IVF rockets, adjust aiming after sprinting, fix awful hit registration. We don't need this AI-heavy playlist."
On the other hand, amid the criticism, there are players sharing how much they're enjoying the new mode. "It's very fun to warm up, real players keep it from being a total farmfest but it's very relaxed," says one Reddit comment. "This subreddit fails to see that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this game all the time. Allow them to find a middle ground," adds a different comment. A response via social media clarifies that as they're "a battledad with busy schedules, this is great for me," while another praises the mode for "not being overcompetitive."
Valid Criticisms and Player Feedback
Despite the support, there are constructive reasons to criticize the new mode. Some users have pointed out that it could increase queue times even longer for other modes due to the large amount of playlists in the game already. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter AI-filled matches in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears a little backwards that the mode does not begin without a required amount of human gamers, even though it primarily centers on combat against bots.
Finally, one of the biggest grievances is that a previous feature was promised to provide complete rewards, including AI matches, but that got canned when they tried to eliminate XP farming from the system. Thus this new playlist feels like the community compromising in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this mode as the developers "dropping the ball significantly, I had so much fun in the initial release, why did they feel the need to adjust it?"
Looking Ahead: Will Changes Be Made?
If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're paying attention and responding to player input. Assignments being too difficult were adjusted very quickly, as did the specific battle pass objectives. Chances are that, if their data indicates this new playlist is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to make further modifications.
