The Game UN:Me: An Psychological Horror Merging Silent Hill with Among Us Mechanics

The recent Day of the Devs online presentation unveiled a number of intriguing upcoming titles, but one in particular has captured attention: UN:Me. Developed by Historia and Shueisha Games, this solo experience appears to blend the oppressive atmosphere of a Silent Hill game with the paranoid deduction core of Among Us.

"It's a distinctive game where a girl containing multiple personalities inside her needs to flee from a labyrinth of the psyche," states producer Yasukazu Kawai.

Stepping Into a Fractured Mind

In UN:Me, players take control of an unnamed heroine who appears to be of high school age. Within her exist four distinct personas, each with their own anxieties and drives. These entities can take over spontaneously, unleashing their innermost terrors upon her suddenly.

Based on revealed footage, much of the narrative unfolds within a creepy medical facility, though additional clips depict the protagonist exploring a abandoned chapel.

An Environment of Individual Dread

"What are you afraid of? What causes you uncomfortable?" poses creative lead Shun Sasaki. "High places. Confined spaces. Authority figures. Things that appear minor to other people can activate something primal inside us. This game explores that concept — anxieties that are specific to each person."

The central gameplay loop involves managing the persona that emerges at a particular moment. However, these identities will switch against your will as you play. While exploring, each soul's fears become exaggerated and assault the girl one after another. As the persona shifts, so does the specific fear the player experiences.

Unsettling Visuals and a Fatal Choice

Initially, UN:Me displays noticeable visual similarities with the Silent Hill series. The hospital is populated by nurses who all share the identical visage, with disturbingly broad smiles. Figures in the waiting room have enormous blooms growing from their heads are. Flowers are a recurring theme, juxtaposing organic elegance with unnatural horror.

Yet, UN:Me introduces a unique mechanic. Players must determine which of the four entities inhabiting the protagonist is the "true" one. "Each of the personas claims that the physical form is rightfully them," explains a creator. "Throughout the game, you need to figure out who is authentic."

Once players have deduced a soul is an impostor, they must eliminate it. However, because each soul can lie or obfuscate the reality, it is incredibly simple to make a mistake.

"Maybe you've already eliminated the real [soul] by your own actions," the narration states. "The final entity standing might be a fraud. Either way, your choices are final."

UN:Me does not yet have a publicly announced launch window, but it is available to wishlist on platforms.
