Supporters Urge Arrest of Individual Who Touched Ariana Grande
Passionate fans of Ariana Grande are demanding that a individual who breached a barricade and grabbed the celebrity during the recent Wicked: For Good launch be arrested or removed from Singapore.
A viral footage depicts the individual from Australia pushing past camera operators and rushing toward Grande while the performers proceeded down a yellow carpet flanked by fans.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo immediately pulled the stunned actress away from Mr Wen, who was observed being escorted out of the premiere by event staff.
Mr Wen shared on Instagram recently that he was "free after being taken in", though official papers indicated that he was set to attend court on the next day. It is uncertain if he was faced legal action.
Record of Incidents
This is part of a pattern for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Controversial Figure", has disrupted a concert or event. His Instagram feed features clips of him disrupting other star-studded functions, including rushing the platform at the artist's Sydney performance in recently and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers performance in the area last year.
"Steps should be implemented enforced against him as this is evidently a punishable act," wrote an Instagram follower, in a message to a video Mr Wen shared of his act.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" one Instagram user remarked.
Fans Express Concern Over the Star's Well-being
Many followers blamed Mr Wen for "re-traumatising" Grande, who had spoken of suffering from trauma-related anxiety after a devastating incident at the end of her May 2017 concert in Manchester, resulting in the death of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"Ariana has been through so many scary things... and at her Manchester concert and you thought it would be fun to jump the barricade?" said one more response on Instagram.
Some fans also questioned guards at the premiere for not being vigilant enough; while others demanded social media platforms to ban Mr Wen's uploads.
Reaction and Premiere Information
In clips shared widely, Grande appeared surprised when she was approached by the individual. Her fellow actors Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be seen comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by staff.
Grande has remained silent on the situation, and the premiere activities proceeded as normal.
Many of attendees had congregated in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore venue, including a number who had queued for as long as many hours before it began.
The film, to be premiered on the 21st of November, is the second of a two-part version of the popular stage show Wicked, which focuses on the unlikely relationship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The show itself is a spin-off of the 1900 book The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who plays the good witch Glinda, was dressed in a champagne pink glittering gown at the gathering while Erivo, who plays the wicked witch, wore a black tube gown featuring roses.
They were accompanied by fellow actor Jeff Goldblum.
The previous installment, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of 2024 in the UK, and scored a dozen Oscar nominations, earning two for outstanding attire and production design.
