A renowned South African radio and club DJ has been shot dead in the nation's economic hub Johannesburg, triggering widespread grief across a nation grappling with entrenched crime.

Warrick Stock, who went by the name DJ Warras, was shot and killed in the city centre on the afternoon of Tuesday.

Authorities reported the forty-year-old presenter was approached by three suspects, one of whom opened fire on him before fleeing on foot.

The purpose of the attack is unknown and no one has been arrested have taken place, as per the official statement.

How It Happened

Police indicated that Stock was ambushed as he was leaving a building in the vicinity of the city center landmark.

He had spent several hours at the building managing the implementation of safety equipment, which had been controversially occupied by unknown people, it was reported.

"It is alleged the deceased was confronted by three unidentified men after he parked his car, and they shot at him before fleeing the scene on foot," a police statement confirmed.

CCTV footage reportedly depicted a suspect with dreadlocks and wearing what resembled a security uniform shooting on Stock before making his escape.

The DJ tried to run away after he was hit but collapsed a short distance away.
