Patrick Bamford Signs With the Blades Despite Initiating Derogatory Songs Targeting Coach Chris Wilder
The striker is now a member of the Championship side only seven months after leading derogatory songs aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.
This experienced striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has signed a contract with the Championship strugglers through the winter. His lengthy spell with Leeds was ended by mutual consent in August.
One of Bamford’s last memorable actions as a Leeds player was to lead insulting chants regarding Chris Wilder during the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the one-cap England player will feature for Wilder as Sheffield United's boss aims to rescue the team he loves away from the bottom places.
Previous History Involving Bamford & the Manager
The pair had history prior to Leeds earned promotion to the top flight the previous campaign while Sheffield United were defeated in the promotion decider to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as a "muppet" back when the roles were reversed in 2018-19 and Sheffield United secured direct promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the playoffs.
Reconciliation & Looking Ahead
All seems has been put behind them with Sheffield United, the league's lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement in attack and Bamford aiming to resurrect his career.
The Wilder chant gained traction this spring. A repentant Patrick along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned the Sheffield United manager the next day.
Wilder stated back then: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I have no issue whatsoever with it. I'm uncertain about the language from a fellow pro! However I valued and respected him calling me.
“We had a short while and the same again I spoke to Daniel too and we had a half-hour chat with him and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we used to give it and take it and that’s an integral part of football across all levels, even on Sunday league. I have absolutely no issue. I am cool with the situation and I said that to Pat.”
Recent Playing Challenges
Bamford featured in 18 appearances with Leeds United in the previous campaign but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea & Boro striker has faced difficulties with fitness issues in recent years.
