Nigel Farage Accuses Educators of ‘Poisoning Our Kids’ on Race Issues
Nigel Farage has asserted that teachers would go on strike within weeks a success at the polls for his party, accusing them of “poisoning our kids” by instructing children that black pupils are victims and Caucasian students are perpetrators.
During an event for a Michigan-based religious institution, Farage outlined his perspective on British schools, claiming that the “Marxist left” had “taken over schooling”.
“I expect a walkout by educators soon after winning the next general election,” Farage commented during a Q&A session.
“They are poisoning our kids. They are telling them to feel guilt about their nation. They inform little Johnny, who’s eight, who is black that he is a victim and little Oliver, who is white, who is eight that he is an oppressor. They create division, not uniting us. They are feeding this negative culture.”
In response to Farage’s claims, Daniel Kebede rejected the idea that the schools were under Marxist influence as “nonsense”. He pointed out that industrial action must relate to teachers’ terms and conditions, and doubted whether the party would target these immediately upon entering government.
“The politician has crafted his public life on dog-whistle politics and now, like Trump, he is lining up teachers and their unions for a fight,” the union leader said.
“I think that’s grossly irresponsible. Neither I nor our union – advocate such divisive theories as he claims … Should he become prime minister he would undermine state services, particularly schooling … and the outcome would be catastrophic for students and learning.”
The party, which is leading the polls by about 10 points, has not set out much detail on a proposed education policy and seems not to have appointed an education spokesperson.
However, his comments suggested the group would reform the system and the curriculum. He said: “We face an enormous task with education – absolutely herculean. And, it won’t happen quickly; it will take us years, a long-term effort to reform.”
He stated that younger generations are receptive to analytical thought, but older youth were “completely lost”.
Paying tribute to Charlie Kirk, Farage said: “My goal for schooling is to teach critical thinking – to educate individuals that multiple perspectives exist and they should decide for themselves rather than current practices where one is virtuous and one is evil. It’s a massive job in the UK and US.”
The party has conflicted with a major educators’ organization, after Kebede called the party “far right and racist” and dismissed Farage as “a cheap imitation”.
The politician has charged the union head with being “a self-declared Marxist” … someone who is absolutely determined that our children should be poisoned through education, their minds should be poisoned regarding national issues” and maintained that the union is trying to indoctrinate teenagers against Reform.
Almost one million people work in schools in the UK, with educators comprising half and the others teaching assistants and support staff. The leading teachers’ organization has hundreds of thousands of members.
National strikes over educators’ salaries and work environment in recent years caused widespread disruption in schools and extensive missed instruction for children.
During the American gathering, Farage also pledged to help spread the digital courses of the institution in the UK. He said such groups were “key to resistance”, noting: “I am serious. I’ll assist attract vast numbers of young people to these educational programs. I pledge this tonight and I will follow through.”
The college, a small private Christian college, offers free courses. Its website states: “Comprehensive learning is necessary for personal happiness and to maintain the benefits of freedom. The college furnishes these beautiful courses for no charge to every interested learner.”
