No major competition promotes parity like the NFL: it’s the entire brand. However, after 10 weeks in this campaign, this isn’t a league that is equally balanced between the good, the bad and the mediocre. Rather, we see a situation where the majority of teams is simply adequate.

NFC Clarity

Within the National Football Conference, for the most part, the picture becomes more distinct. Los Angeles and Seattle (both standing at seven wins, two losses) seem like the most complete teams in the NFL, and delivered blowout wins on Sunday. The 6-2 Eagles despite their struggles maintain among the most gifted lineups in the league, similar to Green Bay (five wins, two losses, one tie). Even the Lions (6-3 standing), despite their uneven performances in trench play and have been dealing with tension on their coaching staff, have proven they can hammer quality opponents. Regarding these five teams, one can readily put together a championship trajectory.

AFC Playoff Chaos

In the AFC however, postseason landscape remains completely chaotic. Your four division leaders at this stage: the Colts, Patriots, Broncos (all at 8-2) and Steelers (five wins, four losses). Consider that carefully. No Chiefs presence. Buffalo is missing. Baltimore and Cincinnati are absent. The usual contenders, featuring elite NFL signal-callers, display either obvious team deficiencies or have been hit by injuries.

Competitive Balance System

To some extent, this is exactly what the league wants. Yet observing this season's top AFC teams in the AFC still feels strange. Components of every squad pass the championship smell test, but not in their entirety. Team Breakdowns

Indianapolis Outlook

Starting in Indianapolis, Daniel Jones hasn't yet achieved complete disaster level. But the last two weeks have been worrying. He has returned to giving away possessions and failing against blitzes. He suffered seven sacks versus Atlanta during Sunday's contest, and had a short sequence where he delivered an interception and lost three fumbles. This is a week after he committed turnovers five times facing the Steelers.

The Colts attack performed well initially since Jones evaded catastrophic mistakes. Jonathan Taylor and the offensive line mean the Colts are good enough to survive some negative plays, as they did in Berlin. Yet Jones going back to his old blunder-prone days would finish postseason aspirations.

New England Analysis

New England appears relatively comparable. Previously, they were considered jokes. Currently, they represent the league’s happiest surprise and the most successful franchise in the NFL post seven wins in a row. Except for losing due to fumbles a winnable game against Pittsburgh, they would currently hold at 9–1 as the league's best. In the prior year, they were old and slow. Currently they're inexperienced, speedy and bold. Still, it’s hard to ignore how soft the Patriots’ schedule has been. They've encountered the least challenging lineup throughout football, and flaws have still emerged. Drake Maye has been sacked thirty-five times – among the highest totals – with several hits he endured during the game proved brutal. Over time, those hits add up.

Denver Broncos

The Broncos are 8–2 as well, and the perception remains like they're nervously waiting. Their quarterback has been erratic, and the offensive unit laboring, as the defense handles all the heavy lifting. Absent adequate signal-calling, the Broncos aren’t scaring playoff opponents. The Chargers are also contending within their division at 7-2, but the injuries affecting their protection unit will make it tough for extended playoff success.

Pittsburgh Steelers

Meanwhile, Pittsburgh exists, inexplicably frontrunning the AFC North despite being thumped a decisive loss to Los Angeles during prime time. Their scoring margin remains negative, their defense regularly vanishes, with their quarterback's restrictions at this stage of his career regularly manifest. At 5-4, they're barely clinging, but Baltimore, with Lamar Jackson healthy again and the schedule softening, are on a three-game win streak. We shouldn't be completely astonished that Baltimore has closed the gap to just one game, but that it has arrived so quickly highlights deficiencies within Pittsburgh’s inconsistencies. Considering the Ravens opened losing five of six yet still appear likely to claim the title speaks volumes regarding the conference as a whole.

Established Contenders

The Ravens represent a segment of the Big Three – together with Bills and Chiefs – driven by elite quarterback play, who would still strike the greatest concern among competitors if they qualified. They represent undesirable playoff matchups, however, both franchises continue to self-destruct.

Bills Struggles

A week ago, the Bills felt confident after beating the Chiefs. This weekend they encountered a particularly discouraging setback during the campaign. They didn't merely fall to the Dolphins; they were embarrassed, losing 30-13 as visitors. It was Miami’s first win over the Bills in more than 1,000 days.
