A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Pardoned by Miami Dade County Leader.

It might not have been at the equivalent scale as sparing festive fowl, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a swine named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.

“This animal is guiltless. She deserves this act of mercy. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with obvious nods to the vast quantity of pardons issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.

“Except perhaps for eating six or seven apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence away from worry.”

The gathering, simultaneously observing and challenging the area's customary feast of consuming swine during the holidays, was created to replicate the annual turkey pardoning at the White House.

The pig, contributed by a first responder, was given its name from the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “6-7” – deriving from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so widespread that a leading lexicon site recently named “6-7” its top term for the year.

A Future Secured

This particular pig is now scheduled to spend its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.

“The annual pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to kick off the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a particularly upbeat message.

“It embodies the character of Miami: joyful, varied, and rooted in traditions that foster togetherness. Every time, we are proud to celebrate tradition and kindness in a way distinctively Miamian.”

Participants enjoyed a meat-free selection of spinach croquetas and cafecito as they marked Six Seven’s big moment.
